Another amazing line up at Duffys

Celestar Coco & The Manananas & Venus Attax & UFO Cult at Duffys on 12th July
We are over 3 years into the great adventure in women’s music started by our much missed friend Ruth Miller. Events move fast and the constant energy about Leicester is palpable.
I think this particular event will be seen as a benchmark one. Three of the four bands were playing their fifth, fourth and first ever set respectively. Even the longer established one had a certain fresh spring in its step. Attitude was at maximum. It was hot hot summer and hot hot onstage.

Coco the cat purred in delight at the Celestar blur of chronic Taytos addiction, fishnet stockings, Converse trainers and IKEA Emotional Support Penguins…
In matching tin foil hats The Manananas were more glam, more shimmy shimmy than ever!
All done on only two hours rehearsal with the unstoppable force that is Aya who has considerable chops as musicians say to one another.
Helena’s bass was almost growling and Hannah was making the drums beg for mercy…
This was a tough one for Venus Attax to follow but follow it they did, Carole giving this kit it’s third consecutive thrashing, The Attax were harder edged with Karyn and Kara’s vocal fabness to the fore (and Peta’s for ‘Queer’…) the pensive ‘Mothers Day’ and bitter ‘Working For The Man’ were other set highlights.

A real band of the community, always representing…
Brand new band UFO Cult could have been a bit of sideline fun for members of Velvet Crisis, Dopamine Crash and Virginias Wolves but this terrific trio were cohesively full on for real.
Unbelievable for a debut, Sophie so assured and Chris and Lucy’s vocal blend is sublime. Sophie even did a switch and debuted on drums and while Lucy did on bass, wow, just wow!
