I’m Not A Fucking Metronome

DADA WOMEN / DADA WOMXN —  2024 / 1 Tracks / Lucy Phillips Arts Fund
Lucy Phillips is hard to describe. We know her best as a founder member of Boilers – one of the bands from Leicester’s Unglamorous Music initiative which saw 20 all women bands form in the city. Four of those bands are here on the album – as well as Boilers there are Velvet Crisis, Dada Women and Rogue Notion.

Lucy played drums and did vocals in Boilers and the title of this album – I’m not a fucking metronome! – is one of her many sayings. She was hilarious. After so many years of supporting her drummer husband Chris’s gigs (he’s here with Boilermen, one of his five bands) she took to the stage and shone and she loved doing it. The Boilers song, Looking Good, that opens this album was written by Lucy.

This album came together after a gig to raise money for the fund, Leicester has a great, diverse live music scene and that is reflected here. All the bands on the album played that gig at The Musician on Clyde Street in September 2024. It was a brilliant, emotional day.

Lucy died suddenly in May 2024 with so many songs left to write and gigs to do. The Lucy Phillips Arts Fund was set up in tribute to her life of making a difference to so many artists and creatives.

All the money raised from this album will go to the Lucy Phillips Arts Fund and will support people working in the visual arts  more
